Effect of Different Types of Written Corrective Feedback on Accuracy and Overall Quality of L2 Learners’ Writing

[Abstract] [Full-Text PDF] [html]

Abstract: The present study aims to trace the long term effects of different types of feedback–direct, indirect, and content– on EFL learners’ writing accuracy (the major concern of SLA researchers) and overall writing quality (the primary aim of L2 writing researchers). Data was gathered from three groups of Iranian EFL learners (N=44) randomly assigned to an indirect feedback, a direct feedback, and a content feedback group. The first two groups received both content and form feedback, while the last group received content feedback only. Results obtained from the analysis of three essays written at the beginning, in the middle, and at the end of the study, over the course of nine months, indicated a significant but small difference between formal feedback groups (direct and indirect) and only content feedback group regarding the long-term improvement of their writing accuracy. Nonetheless, no significant difference was found among the three groups with respect to the improvement observed in their overall writing quality in the long run. The study concludes that content feedback seems to be the most efficient feedback method, when we are concerned with the long-term improvement in either accuracy or overall quality of writing.

Social Justice and Philosophies of Adult Education, The Meaning of Social Justice in Philosophy of Adult Education Theories

[Abstract] [Full-Text PDF] [html]

Abstract: Societies include social classes or social groups with different levels of access to education, health care, housing, transportation, leisure, voting rights, freedom of speech and assembly, quality neighborhood, living wages, and other goods and services. Some people think that the gaps among groups are considered as resulting from individual efforts and drive. Others believe that unequal access to resources stems from structural and institutionalized exploitations of one group by another, thus argue for social justice. Many believe that education can help tackle the structures that are the root causes of social and economic inequalities, thus lead to social justice. However, education for social justice has mostly been considered in the perspective of young children and youth. What is the meaning of social justice in the context of adult education? Reaching social justice has been a challenge throughout the history of the American society and remains critical in adult education. This paper reviews the concept of social justice and provides an overview in terms of its meaning for liberal, progressive, behaviorist, humanist, radical, analytic, and postmodern philosophies of adult education

Databases for Cloud Computing: Comparative Study and Review

[Abstract] [Full-Text PDF] [html]

Abstract: Unlike last countless years, the present era has no dependency on relational data base due to the rise of technological changes such as web based applications has replaced the stand alone applications , distributed servers has replaced the normal dedicated servers. A giant imagination gets converted into reality in the form of cloud computing next to World Wide Web. Cloud databases are becoming popular and used for data exhaustive applications as data mining, warehousing and intelligences. This paper give a review on an architecture of shared disk database for cloud computing. The database architecture called shared-disk is ideal for cloud databases, which eliminates the need to partition data. It allows the clusters of low-cost servers to use a single assortment of data. It is typically served up by a Network Attached Storage (NAS) or Storage Area Network (SAN). All of the data available to all the servers, there are no partitioning of data is required. For example if we are using two servers and query takes .60 seconds and now we can dynamically add another server, the same query might take .30 seconds. Thus elastic scalability is supported by this type of database.

The Role of Educational Media in Teaching – Learning Process

[Abstract] [Full-Text PDF] [html]

Abstract: Today, due to the severe resource constraints in the world, on one hand, and the rejection of other consumer’s populations on the other hand, the issues related to increasing productivity and efficiency in all areas of human life has become the topic of debate and discussions, and the efforts of many individuals and organizations focused on ways to realize it. Educational system has become one of the most used social organization based on the millions of students, teachers, and other related people; which is in urgent need for plans and methods to increase their productivity, hoping that increased efficiency in education is equal to better learning, better retention of learning and deeper learning and prosperity of their talents in exchange for lower financial and human resources expenditures. The teaching-learning opportunities were designed, implemented and evaluated in more systematic approaches. In this process, the role of educational media as one of the system components, and as a facilitator of communication between teachers and students is very significant and fundamental. Based on a system approach to curriculum design, decisions about how to select each elements including educational media are linked to other elements in the system, therefore, it is very important and essential to pay special care and attention in the selection of instructional media.

Green Supply Chain Management and Environment Performance in Malaysian Healthcare Industry

[Abstract] [Full-Text PDF] [html]

Abstract: Green Supply Chain (GSC) is increasingly implement in the healthcare industry. The purpose of this paper are to identify the Green Supply Chain Management (GSCM) and Environment Performance (EP) measures for Malaysian Healthcare Industry and to develop relationship model between GSCM and EP for Malaysian Healthcare Industry. A structural relationship model using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) has been proposed. Based on the proposed conceptual model and reviewed, research hypotheses are being developed. The research concludes with suggest future research work.

Strategies for Motivation of Teachers for Effectiveness Amid Universal Basic Education (UBE) Programme Implementation in Nigeria

[Abstract] [Full-Text PDF] [html]

Abstract: In Nigeria, the low status of teachers, coupled with the ineffectiveness, low commitment, the display of negative attitudes by some teachers, the poor academic performance of pupils/students in schools, as well as the falling standard of education, calls for adequate motivation of teachers. Against this backdrop, this paper examines the strategies for motivating teachers for improved performance at this period of implementation of Universal Basic Education (UBE) programme, such as: allowing teachers to participate in decision making, attending to teachers’ personal and on the job problems, recognizing, praising and rewarding teachers with outstanding performance, assigning responsibilities to teachers, providing incentives for teachers, improving school environment, providing instructional materials for teachers, regular promotion of teachers, sponsoring teachers to conferences, seminars, and workshops, prompt payment of teachers’ salaries and allowances, payment of special salary for teachers, as well as the professionalization of teaching..
